I love cars, but the problem is they are like schroedinger’s hobby. They’re always in a quantum superstate of being both awesome and a huge waste of time and money… until observation momentarily forces them into one state or another.

Winter update

Well, not much happening in Midatlantic7s this winter. But, I did manage to locate a replacement engine for my own E38, out in Ogden UT, of all places. Came out of a wrecked ’98 with 72k miles on it. Now comes the process of swapping out all the new parts from my old engine onto this one, and replacing a few gaskets as well, to make sure that the new one will last another hundred thousand miles. Aaron and harry have already said they would assist in the swap, as will my lovely wife (who has no problems diving in and getting her hands dirty). I’ll be sure to document every bit of the engine replacement so any of you who end up in a similar situation can follow along easily.

Fall update

Well, it’s been a rough summer. Before Hurricane Irene came through, my own 740iL died a horrible death at the hands of Mother Nature. It sucked up water when going through what turned out to be a deep puddle in an intersection and now needs a new engine. It sits in the garage waiting for spring when I can get to doing a swap with a replacement. During the same time period, Harry (audiavant) had an accident with his silver Shorty Sporty and totaled it. However he’s already replaced it with a newer black Sport model, so congrats to him, in a sense! Hopefully fall and winter find you all well and we can resume meets in the spring with a new outlook and some new cars!

July Mini Meet

Watch this space for info on the upcoming mini-meet in July. Starting point will again be the Security Square parking lot on the north side (by Security Blvd) at 1pm. Sunday the 17th. Open to all BMWs. Short meet followed by tour to dinner.

Weekday meet

I was thinking a Thursday or Friday at Sonic over on Liberty Road. Chime in and let me know what day works best for you. Maybe we can even do multiple ones so everyone can attend one.

Fall Meet 2010

Looks like we have a date and time for the Fall E38 meet with the NY, NJ, and PA guys, up at Valley Forge PA, Oct. 3rd. It’s a good central location to have a meet, then we can cruise to dinner locally.

Sign in here and let me know if you can make it. Also, I’d like to have a late summer local meet at Owings Mills Mall on a weekday evening in September before the PA meet. Let me know what days would be good for everyone.

Shop Talk

Hi!

While many of us tend to be DIY’ers and work on our own cars, often it’s just better to let a pro handle it.

In order to better serve the local E38 community, this is going to be a list of independent BMW specialists and other shops that can help you out. If you have had good or bad luck with any shop in your area from Pennsylvania to Virginia, post that info here. Hopefully this will end up being a great resource for local owners. If you have a shop and want to let people know about it, post here, as well.

Spring 2010 meet

Hi! It’s that time! Time to shake off the Winter doldrums, do some spring cleaning, and get out and enjoy our cars! Time for another spring meet and tour. Since the other one worked out so well, we’ll do it from security Mall again. Tentatively, it’s set for Saturday, April 24th. I know not everyone can make it out on a Saturday, but fewer can make it out on a Sunday. The plan is the same as before, meet up from 1-3pm at the mall, then tour on to food.

I’ve been meeting some new faces, and I hope to see you there! Watch this space for more info as we get closer.

Spring Meet is done!

The meet was a rousing success. We had 13 cars in total show up, 11 that were able to make it on the tour. Big thanks to all that showed up and braved the possible inclement weather (which held off for the most part). Check in the gallery here for pics of the event.
